My Experience
I like to say that I began in graphic arts "B.C." That is, "Before Computers." Although some large computer somewhere set our type in "galleys," we would manually paste-up pages. I did some work using a letterpress printing press while I was still in college. After graduation, I worked for a technical graphics firm in Denver, pasting up such exciting projects as technical manuals for IBM, price lists for Gates Rubber Company, and I worked on a monthly magazine, "The School Lunch Journal."
I moved to San Diego in 1971 and worked for a college textbook company and then a large discount retail store. Then I "went to the dogs!" I became a dog groomer and owned a grooming shop and dog and cat boarding kennel for about 20 years, although I continued to use my graphic arts skills to promote the pet services and then began offering services to other pet businesses and businesses local to my area. Eventually, I gave up the pet care business and concentrated entirely on graphic arts.
I was unable to make enough of a living on my freelance work, so got a job at the San Diego Union-Tribune in their production department. What a dream to have a steady paycheck and paid time off! So I stayed there for about 14 years, but continued to do jobs for my freelance clients.
When the nighttime schedule became to much for me, my husband and I relocated to Utah, where life is MUCH less hectic! It agrees with me.
I would like to use my skills to help new clients now that I have more time. Please give me a try! You'll be surprised what we can do together.
